Zeta Amicae: Friends of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated
As early as 1940, graduate chapters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated
recognized the value of engaging and collaborating with women who, for various reasons, were not members of any Greek-letter organization. These women, committed to service and sisterhood, began supporting Zeta initiatives in meaningful ways.

Under the administration of Soror Lullelia Harrison, the first Zeta Amicae chapter was officially organized in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1947, making Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. the first sorority within the National Pan-Hellenic Council to establish an auxiliary group. Today, Amicae auxiliaries continue to operate under the sponsorship of local graduate chapters, extending Zeta’s reach and impact.

 

Who Are the Zeta Amicae?
The term “Amicae” translates to “friends”; in Latin, symbolizing the deep-rooted partnership between these dedicated women and Zeta Phi Beta. The Amicae auxiliary is composed of women who support the ideals of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. but have not yet earned a four-year college degree.

Purpose & Impact
The Zeta Amicae auxiliary serves a critical role in advancing the mission of Zeta Phi
Beta Sorority, Inc. by:

  • Assisting Zeta chapters with service projects and activities. 
  • Promoting good public relations and fostering meaningful community
    engagement.
  • Encouraging cooperation in civic and community outreach efforts.

Since its official establishment as an auxiliary during the 1948 National Boule’, Zeta Amicae have made significant contributions to communities worldwide. With auxiliaries in all eight regions of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., these women continue to provide invaluable service, raising thousands of dollars and dedicating countless hours to support the sorority’s mission.

Eligibility Criteria
Prospective members must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Do not possess a four-year college degree.
  • Have a passion for community service and outreach.
  • Are not members of a professional Greek-letter organization.
  • Are committed to the time and financial responsibilities of membership.
  • Are actively engaged in religious and/or community activities.
  • Seek affiliation with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
  • Exhibit cooperative spirit, a positive attitude, maturity, and a commitment to
    teamwork.
